Revanth Reddy Cancels US Visit After Centre Denies Political Clearance

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has cancelled his planned visit to the United States after the Ministry of External Affairs denied permission, stating that “clearance from political angle is denied.”

Revanth Reddy, who is currently in London, will now return to Hyderabad on August 23 instead of travelling to Boston and New York. He was scheduled to visit Boston and then travel to New York to participate in the Indian Overseas Congress meet-and-greet. His US visit was originally scheduled to continue until August 30.

The Telangana government had sought permission from the Centre for the Chief Minister’s UK and US visits as per established policy and protocol. While the UK visit was approved, permission for the US leg was denied after the official delegation had already reached London.

Reacting to the decision, Revanth Reddy said the main objective of the US visit was to bring leading global educational institutions to Telangana and Hyderabad as part of the broader goals of the National Education Policy. He said such partnerships could help provide Telangana’s youth with access to world-class education, skills and training.

“I have always believed we should all think beyond politics and elections when it comes to nation building and the future of our youth,” the Chief Minister said.

Despite the denial of political clearance, Revanth Reddy said he would respect the Centre’s decision and return to India from London. However, he instructed the state officials to proceed with the planned US visit and complete the proposed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and partnership agreements with leading educational institutions.

The Chief Minister reiterated his vision of transforming Hyderabad into a global knowledge hub. He highlighted institutions such as Osmania University, the University of Hyderabad, JNTU, IIT Hyderabad, ISB, IIIT Hyderabad and NALSAR, saying they have played an important role in developing skilled human resources and attracting major global companies and their Global Capability Centres (GCCs) to the city.

He also cited Hyderabad Public School as an example of how educational institutions can produce globally recognised technology leaders and contribute to the city’s emergence as a major knowledge and innovation centre.
