Hyderabad: The Commissioner’s Task Force, Golconda Zone team, along with Goshamahal Police, apprehended four persons allegedly involved in the illegal procurement, sale and consumption of Mephentermine Sulphate injections, which are reportedly being misused by some individuals for bodybuilding and muscle growth.
Police identified the accused as Gowtham Singh (24), the alleged main supplier; R. Abhilash (19), supplier; Siddesh Aundekar (19), consumer; and Daksh Upadhyay (20), consumer. All four are residents of Hyderabad.
According to police, Gowtham Singh and Abhilash were gym friends, and Abhilash allegedly introduced Gowtham to Mephentermine injections. Police said Gowtham later decided to sell the injections for profit and allegedly contacted an unidentified supplier in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, through WhatsApp. The injections were reportedly procured at around ₹160 per vial and sold to customers in the Goshamahal area for approximately ₹900 per vial.
Acting on a tip-off, Task Force personnel and Goshamahal Police intercepted Gowtham Singh and R. Abhilash near Hyderabad Plastic Company Godown, MJ Bridge, Bhoolakshmi Mata Temple, Begum Bazaar, while they were allegedly carrying the injections for sale to the two consumers.
Police seized 50 vials of Mephentermine Sulphate injections, five empty vials, five BD U-40 insulin injections, four mobile phones and a Burgman motorcycle bearing registration number TS 13 FB 5577. The total value of the seized property was estimated at ₹1.85 lakh, while the seized Mephentermine injections alone were valued at approximately ₹45,000.
Police warned that the misuse of steroid and related injections, particularly among young people seeking rapid muscle growth, can lead to serious health complications. Officials said the accused were allegedly selling the injections without a valid licence or doctor’s prescription.
