Former Minister T. Harish Rao Attends “DUCIMUS – WE LEAD” Closing Ceremony at Osmania University Law College

Hyderabad:02-04-2026 Former Minister T. Harish Rao participated as the chief guest in the valedictory function of “DUCIMUS – WE LEAD,” organized by the students of the Law College at Osmania University, held at the Tagore Auditorium.

Addressing the gathering, Harish Rao expressed deep nostalgia, recalling his association with Osmania University and the many emotional moments connected to it. He congratulated the graduating law students, stating that by donning the black coat, they are stepping into the role of protectors of the Constitution envisioned by B. R. Ambedkar.

He noted that in an era where most youth prefer careers in software and medicine, choosing law makes them “something special.” Highlighting history, he said that lawyers have always been at the forefront of major movements, including India’s freedom struggle led by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, and B. R. Ambedkar, as well as the Telangana movement.

He emphasized that wherever justice exists, lawyers play a key role, and their presence ensures that struggles achieve success. Quoting Martin Luther King Jr., he reminded students that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Raising concerns over the judicial system, Harish Rao pointed out that nearly 50 million cases are pending across the country, and justice still remains inaccessible to many poor people. He urged young lawyers to become the voice of the oppressed and stand firmly on the side of justice.

He also criticized the proposed hate speech bill, calling it a “freeze speech bill” aimed at curbing freedom of expression. He stated that attempts to suppress dissent must be opposed and highlighted that democratic institutions must function independently. He described the four pillars of democracy—legislature, executive, judiciary, and media—and stressed that the judiciary plays the most crucial role.

Recalling the significance of Tagore Auditorium in the Telangana movement, he paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for statehood, mentioning incidents that remain vivid in his memory. He said Telangana is the result of countless struggles and sacrifices, and it is the responsibility of every citizen to protect it.

Encouraging students, he remarked that just as doctors save lives, lawyers must stand by victims and ensure justice prevails. He called upon the youth to actively participate in politics and provide new direction to the nation.

He concluded by urging law graduates to grow not only professionally but also politically, and to uphold the values of justice, equality, and constitutional rights.
