Minister dines with students at Basara RGUKT, orders steps to address issues
BASARA, April 3: District In-charge Minister Jupally Krishna Rao paid a surprise visit to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), Basara, on Friday, sharing a meal with students and holding an interaction to assess their concerns.
Dispensing with protocol, the Minister joined students in the campus mess and partook of the same food served to them, informally engaging with them at the dining tables. He enquired about the quality and hygiene of food, as well as the overall dining environment.
Addressing students briefly during the visit, Mr. Rao said the objective was to gain a first-hand understanding of their day-to-day difficulties. He urged them to speak without hesitation and sought feedback on academic standards, faculty availability, hostel maintenance, and basic amenities.
Students flagged issues relating to drinking water, sanitation, and infrastructure. The Minister assured them that the concerns would be addressed on priority, reiterating the government’s commitment to improving both academic and residential facilities on the campus.
Later, he held a review meeting with university officials and district authorities, focusing on gaps in essential services. He directed officials to ensure safe drinking water, better upkeep of hostels, and improvements in academic delivery.
In a significant gesture, Mr. Rao chose to stay overnight on the campus to personally assess hostel conditions and security arrangements. The move was seen as an attempt to obtain a realistic picture of campus life, with students expressing hope that their long-pending issues would now be resolved.
