Hyderabad: August 25: Not every voter who receives a notice as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls will be required to attend an in-person hearing in Telangana.

According to Telangana Chief Electoral Office (CEO) officials, celebrities, VIPs, industry personalities and elderly voters flagged for anomalies or those whose names could not be mapped with the SIR 2002 electoral roll may authorise a family member to represent them during the hearing.

The authorised representative will have to submit the voter’s original documents before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO). The provision has also been extended to people currently residing outside Telangana and those suffering from chronic health conditions.

A senior Telangana CEO official said voters seeking exemption from personal appearance must submit an authorisation letter to the ERO. The ERO will have the discretion to grant the exemption. However, if the officer is not satisfied with the explanation or documents submitted, the voter may be called for a personal hearing again.

The Telangana CEO has identified anomalies such as mismatched names and incorrect ages between the present electoral roll and the last SIR list in forms submitted by 60,50,918 voters. Another 32,36,659 electors could not be mapped with the SIR 2002 electoral roll.

So far, more than 1.50 lakh voters have been served notices, while around 75 lakh notices have been downloaded by EROs and AEROs. The notices will be printed and distributed through Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who will obtain acknowledgements and photographs confirming service.

Voters can submit supporting documents through the voters’ portal or the BLO app. They can also attend an in-person hearing before the ERO or AERO to clarify discrepancies in their enumeration forms.

For voters who could not be mapped with the SIR 2002 list, original supporting documents must be produced before the ERO or AERO.

Officials also said Grama Sabhas will be conducted from August 27, providing voters another opportunity to correct anomalies by submitting the required original documents.
