Hyderabad, September 6: Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand has announced that he will instruct all Commissioners of Police to launch a special drive to curb alleged extortion by some transgender groups during housewarming ceremonies and other social occasions.

Responding to growing public complaints, the DGP said similar issues had been addressed successfully in the past.

“I have been noticing these complaints against some transgender groups recently. In fact, when I was the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, we conducted a special drive to control begging rackets and extortion by transgender persons after similar complaints increased. I will once again instruct all Commissioners of Police to undertake a special drive to address the issue,” C.V. Anand said.

At the same time, the DGP highlighted the Telangana government’s efforts to integrate members of the transgender community into mainstream society through employment opportunities.

“The Telangana government has encouraged transgender persons to become part of the mainstream by engaging them as Traffic Assistants and in HYDRAA. They have performed their duties very well without any complaints,” he added.

The DGP emphasized that while strict action would be taken against individuals involved in illegal activities, the government remains committed to supporting and empowering the transgender community through meaningful employment and social inclusion.
