Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy has requested the Election Commission of India to extend the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by three weeks.

The current deadline for filing claims and objections to the draft electoral rolls is September 16. The Telangana CEO has written to the Election Commission seeking an extension of the schedule. If approved, the final electoral roll is likely to be published in the last week of November or the first week of December.

Earlier, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had also urged Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to extend the SIR timeline. He said the existing one-month period for filing claims and objections was insufficient and sought a four-week extension. He also requested an additional three to four weeks for voters who received notices to respond and submit the required documents.

Under the existing schedule, claims and objections can be filed until September 16, while the notice process and disposal of claims and objections will continue until October 15. The final electoral roll is currently scheduled to be published on October 19.

Meanwhile, SIR notices have been issued to 47.79 lakh voters across Telangana so far. Officials said around 32.39 lakh voters who received notices had not appeared for hearings as of Saturday.

So far, hearings have been completed for 5,74,504 voters across the state. The Election Commission’s decision on the Telangana CEO’s request for a three-week extension is awaited.
