Hyderabad, August 29: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to allow voters at least three to four weeks to respond to notices issued as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

In a letter to ECI Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Revanth Reddy said the existing provision of one week to respond, followed by a second notice, may not be sufficient, especially for daily-wage workers, migrant labourers and elderly voters. He noted that the difficulty could be greater when voters are required to obtain documents from another district or state.

The Chief Minister also proposed setting up helpdesks at booth level, particularly in urban districts, to assist voters in understanding the notices, identifying admissible documents and obtaining them from the concerned authorities.

Revanth Reddy assured the ECI of the Telangana government’s full cooperation, including mobilising officials for Gram Sabha and Ward Committee meetings, creating awareness among affected voters and providing logistical support.

The scale of the SIR exercise has also raised concerns. Against 3.38 crore electors in Telangana as of June 10, 2026, around 73.39 lakh entries have been classified under the absent, shifted, dead and duplicate (ASDD) categories.

Of the 2.65 crore enumeration forms digitised, around 60.50 lakh have been flagged for anomalies, while 32.36 lakh have no link to the previous electoral roll. Together, these account for 92.86 lakh electors who are expected to receive notices.

The ASDD list includes 45.19 lakh electors classified as permanently shifted, accounting for nearly 62 per cent of the 73.39 lakh entries in the category.
