Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday inaugurated the “Duddilla Sripada Rao Central Hall” at the State Legislative Assembly premises in the presence of Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy and Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several ministers, MLAs and MLCs. The Central Hall has been named after late former Assembly Speaker Duddilla Sripada Rao. Following the inauguration, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy interacted with several leaders at the newly opened facility.

The inauguration comes on the day the Telangana Legislative Assembly session is scheduled to begin. The ruling Congress and opposition parties are expected to raise a range of political and public-interest issues during the session.

Meanwhile, the BJP has called for a protest to “seize” the Assembly, prompting authorities to intensify security arrangements around the legislature. Heavy police deployment has been made outside the Assembly premises, with personnel stationed at key entry and exit points as well as other sensitive locations.

Security has been tightened in anticipation of the BJP protest, with police keeping a close watch on movements around the Assembly complex.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had earlier announced that the Assembly session would commence on September 7 during a meeting with ministers and MLAs at the Secretariat on August 25.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed development programmes in various Assembly constituencies and directed legislators to expedite pending land acquisition for irrigation projects. He stressed that several irrigation projects could not be completed unless the required land acquisition was taken up on a priority basis.

Revanth Reddy assured the legislators that the government would provide the necessary funds for land acquisition, Relief and Rehabilitation (R&R) measures and obtaining forest clearances.

He also instructed MLAs to give greater attention to development works in their respective constituencies and ensure that pending projects and government programmes are completed without delay.
