Nirmal, Dec. 19(Abdul Majid): A 36-year-old woman died by suicide after jumping into a well at Dhani village in Sarangapur mandal of Nirmal district, in a tragic incident reported on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Addiga Rajamani (36), a native of Dhani village. Her in-laws hail from Chityal village in Nirmal mandal. According to police and family sources, Rajamani had been undergoing severe mental distress following a series of personal tragedies. Her husband passed away a few years ago, and her only son, Rishi (14), died about a year ago. Since then, she had been living at her parental home in Dhani village and was reportedly battling depression.

Family members said that Rajamani had earlier attempted suicide about a month ago but was rescued in time by her brothers. On Wednesday night, she was reported missing from her house. After an extensive search, her family found her body in a Gram Panchayat well located behind the SC Colony in Dhani village.

Based on a complaint lodged by her brother, Bikku Pedda Rajeshwar, the police registered a case and shifted the body to the Nirmal Government Area Hospital, where a post-mortem examination was conducted.

Police have taken up further investigation.
