Telangana Aims to Lead Global Textile Innovation with “New Swadeshi” Vision: Minister D. Sridhar Babu at ATEXCON 2026

Hyderabad: 3 April 2026
Telangana Minister for Industries and IT, D. Sridhar Babu, on Friday outlined an ambitious roadmap to transform Telangana into a global hub of textile innovation while inaugurating ATEXCON 2026 at HICC Novotel, Hyderabad.
Invoking the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, the Minister recalled how the Charkha symbolized self-reliance and economic freedom during India’s independence movement. He emphasized that the spirit of Swadeshi remains relevant today, stating that India’s growth must be rooted in its traditions while embracing modern advancements.
He asserted that Telangana’s Congress-led government is committed to transforming the state’s rich textile heritage into a driver of future economic growth. “Textiles are not merely an industry; they represent social justice, especially for grassroots weavers,” he said.
Highlighting key policy priorities, the Minister stated that the government aims to empower weavers by transitioning them from labourers in the global supply chain into entrepreneurs and stakeholders. Comprehensive support systems are being put in place to ensure their economic upliftment and sustainability.
Introducing the concept of a “New Swadeshi” for the modern era, Sridhar Babu said the government is integrating advanced technology with traditional practices like the Charkha to elevate the “Made in Telangana” brand on the global stage.
He further noted that no industry can grow in isolation and stressed Telangana’s efforts to connect with international markets through global fashion corridors and circular textile hubs. The state is actively working to showcase its craftsmanship on prestigious platforms such as Milan and New York.
Looking ahead, the Minister said Telangana’s textile sector will evolve beyond manufacturing into a global centre for innovation and intellectual leadership. He highlighted the use of cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to ensure transparency and efficiency across the supply chain.
Emphasizing inclusive development, he echoed Gandhiji’s vision, stating that progress must benefit all sections of society, including farmers, weavers, workers, and investors.
“This is not just a vision—it is a mission in action,” he said, adding that Telangana is actively building its future rather than waiting for it.
Concluding his address, the Minister invited industry leaders and global stakeholders to partner with Telangana, assuring them of full government support. “We see you not just as investors, but as partners in the journey of Rising Telangana,” he stated.
