Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Monday said that the Telangana Government is determined to make the state a role model for women’s economic and social development in the country. He was speaking as the chief guest at the program held at Pragathi Bhavan for the distribution of mobile fish vending vehicles to women.
The Deputy CM said that initiatives being implemented in Telangana are creating a situation where delegations from across India will come to study them. Highlighting the government’s efforts in the fisheries sector, he stated that ₹122 crore has been released for fish seed rearing in 46,000 lakes across the state, and soon, the responsibility of fish and shrimp seed rearing will be handed over to women’s self-help groups under a new action plan.
Bhatti Vikramarka also said the government is committed to transforming women into entrepreneurs by encouraging them to set up solar power plants, from which the government will purchase electricity to generate income. Plans are also underway to promote large-scale women-led businesses in Hyderabad.
He emphasized that the Indiramma Government is working with the goal of turning one crore women into millionaires within five years. For this purpose, it has decided to distribute ₹20,000 crore in interest-free loans every year, and in the very first year, exceeded the target by disbursing ₹21,600 crore.
To further strengthen women’s groups economically, the government has allotted prime land near Shilparamam in Hitec City and is planning to establish DWCRA Bazaars in all districts.
“The women of Telangana must stand strong economically and compete with the world,” the Deputy CM said, adding that every rupee spent on women’s welfare schemes is contributing to the growth of the state’s GDP. He criticized previous governments for neglecting self-help groups for a decade, while asserting that the present government has launched massive welfare programs to support them.
Minister for Sports and Animal Husbandry Vakkiti Srihari, Fisheries Corporation Chairman Mettu Saikumar, SERP CEO Divya, and other officials also took part in the program.
