Osmania University is the Identity of Telangana, Will Be Developed on the Standards of Oxford and Stanford: CM Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that Osmania University is the true identity of Telangana and has played an unforgettable role in the state’s struggles and movements. He announced that the university will be restored to its past glory and developed into an institution of global standards like Oxford and Stanford.
Speaking at a program organized at Osmania University, the Chief Minister said, “Telangana and Osmania University are like twins.” He recalled that from the 1938 peasant armed struggle to the second phase of the Telangana movement, Osmania University has always been at the forefront of every struggle. He paid tribute to student martyrs such as Srikanth Achary, Yadaiah, Eshan Reddy, and Venugopal Reddy, who sacrificed their lives for the formation of Telangana.
CM Revanth Reddy further said that eminent national leaders like P.V. Narasimha Rao, Shivraj Patil, and Jaipal Reddy were all alumni of Osmania University, who not only brought glory to the state but also to the nation.
The Chief Minister alleged that the previous government deliberately weakened Osmania University, but his government, after assuming power, immediately appointed Vice-Chancellors in all universities of the state to ensure that educated and capable individuals lead them.
Emphasizing the power of education, Revanth Reddy said, “I don’t have land or treasury to distribute, but what I can give you is education. Only education can change your destiny, make you wealthy, and build your character.”
He urged the youth to stay away from drugs and addictions, calling them a major threat to their future. Stressing the need for young leadership in the country, he said, “When a 21-year-old can become an IAS officer and serve the nation, why shouldn’t a 21-year-old enter the Legislative Assembly?”
The CM announced that a special engineers’ committee will be formed to study and plan the development of Osmania University. He assured that a meeting will soon be held at the Arts College where special funds for the university will be sanctioned.
Directing the police, he said no police personnel should be visible inside the university on that day and protesters should be allowed to express their dissent freely. “I have the courage to answer those who try to stop me,” he added.
Revanth Reddy appealed to students not to fall prey to propaganda and misinformation spread on social media. He warned that some politicians, whom he described as “wild animals in human form,” pose a danger to Telangana society. “If they return to power, Osmania University itself will not survive,” he cautioned.
The Chief Minister assured that the responsibility of reviving and developing Osmania University lies with his government and every possible step will be taken to achieve that goal.
