Kavitha Opposes Prepaid Smart Meters, Demands Telangana Government Withdraw Decision

Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena Chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha visited the Power Expo–2026 being organised by TGS SDC L at People’s Plaza in Hyderabad.

During her visit, Kavitha toured several stalls set up at the expo and enquired about the latest technologies and innovations in the power sector.

Speaking on the occasion, Kavitha strongly opposed the Telangana government’s decision to introduce prepaid smart meters for domestic electricity connections in the state. She demanded that the government immediately withdraw the proposal.

Kavitha questioned the proposal to supply electricity only after consumers recharge their meters, similar to mobile phone recharges, calling it unfair to consumers.

She alleged that the introduction of smart meters was aimed at eventually withdrawing the free electricity scheme and handing over the state’s power sector to industrialist Gautam Adani.

“Do not put our electricity in Adani’s hands,” Kavitha said, urging the Telangana government to reconsider the decision immediately.

She reiterated that her party strongly opposes the installation of prepaid smart meters for household electricity connections and demanded that the government withdraw the decision without delay.
