Kavitha Kalvakuntla Speaks on the Protection of Telangana’s Culture and Bathukamma Festival

Hyderabad: 22 December (Patriotic Views) BRS MLC Kavitha Kalvakuntla emphasized that the attack on Telangana’s identity by the Congress government must be rejected by the people of the state unitedly. She pointed out that the Congress government, by distancing Telangana’s mother, Bathukamma, has insulted the women and festivals of Telangana. She called on everyone to protect Telangana’s mother, saying that Telangana’s mother is the mother of all and must be preserved.
Kavitha made these remarks during an online meeting organized by the BRS and Telangana Jagriti NRIs, which saw participation from Telangana residents from various countries. The meeting was coordinated by Mahesh Bigala, the convener of the BRS NRI wing.
While addressing the gathering, Kavitha acknowledged the pivotal role played by NRIs in the Telangana movement, recalling how despite facing many humiliations, the NRIs inspired the movement with their support. She expressed her sorrow over the Congress government’s attempt to alter the image of Telangana’s mother.
Kavitha also questioned the government’s attempt to limit Telangana’s unique crops, such as jowar and maize, to the region. She argued that it was inappropriate for the government to claim these crops as exclusive to Telangana. Additionally, she raised concerns about the secrecy surrounding the change in the statue of Telangana’s mother and questioned the necessity of such secrecy if the decision had the approval of the public.
She further mentioned that there have been requests from several villages to install a new statue of Telangana’s mother, and the recent publication of a gazette regarding the new statue has hurt the sentiments of the public. Kavitha also questioned why a gazette notification was issued for the statues of Bharat Mata, Dr. Ambedkar, and Mahatma Gandhi.
NRIs present at the meeting praised Kavitha’s efforts to gain global recognition for the Bathukamma festival. They expressed their support for fighting back against the Congress government’s attacks on Telangana’s identity. The NRIs also promised to continue working towards the preservation of Telangana’s culture and traditions.
The online session was attended by former Chairman of the Film Development Corporation, Anil Kurmachalam, Telangana Jagriti state leader Naveen Achari, and various BRS and Telangana Jagriti leaders from different countries.
