Kavitha Demands Justice for BCs, Challenges Congress and BJP on Historical Failures at Hyderabad’s BC Maha Sabha

Hyderabad, January 3, 2024:
BRS MLC K. Kavitha delivered a compelling address at the BC Maha Sabha organized by Telangana Jagruthi at Indira Park, marking the 194th birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule. The event brought together thousands to discuss the pressing issues faced by the Backward Classes (BCs) and the unfulfilled promises by national parties.
In her fiery speech, Kavitha demanded the immediate implementation of 42% reservations for BCs in local body elections, as pledged in the Kamareddy BC Declaration. She warned the Congress government to fulfill its commitments or face backlash in upcoming elections. “Promises made to BCs cannot remain on paper. The Congress must honor its word or prepare for the consequences,” she declared.
Key Demands and Challenges
Kavitha’s demands included:
- Caste Census: She called for the inclusion of a caste census in the national survey, emphasizing its necessity for accurate representation.
- Statue of Jyothiba Phule: She urged the installation of a statue in the Telangana Assembly to honor the social reformer’s legacy.
- Kamareddy Declaration: Full implementation of the declaration and fair reservations for BCs in line with their population.
Kavitha openly challenged her critics, stating, “If any of my claims about BC welfare are proven false, I will quit politics.” She criticized Congress for rejecting the Kaka Kalelkar Commission report and delaying the Mandal Commission’s implementation. She also took aim at the BJP for refusing to conduct a caste census and suppressing BC representation.
Historical Betrayal by National Parties
Kavitha accused both Congress and BJP of betraying the BC community for seven decades. She noted that the BJP failed to release the 2011 caste census report, and Congress has a history of neglecting BCs. “National parties have consistently failed to prioritize BC welfare, unlike regional leaders like KCR and the late NTR, who fought for their rights,” she remarked.
Celebrating Savitribai Phule’s Legacy
Highlighting Savitribai Phule’s contributions to women’s education and social reform, Kavitha called her a “trailblazer” and a “puli bidda” (tiger’s child). She criticized the Congress government for only recognizing Phule’s birth anniversary after pressure from her movement. “This is not just about a celebration; it is a victory for our cause and for BC rights,” she said.
Call for Unity and Justice
Kavitha stressed the importance of unity across all sections of society in the fight for equality and justice. She challenged Congress to debate the respective contributions of the BRS and Congress toward Telangana’s development over the past decade, asserting, “History will remember this Maha Sabha as a milestone in the fight for BC justice.”
The BC Maha Sabha concluded with strong resolutions aimed at ensuring representation and fairness for BCs, with Kavitha pledging to continue the struggle until justice is achieved.
