Nirmal, Dec. 23(Abdul Majid): Journalists under the banner of the Nirmal Press Club staged a protest in front of the RDO office at the Nirmal district headquarters on Tuesday, demanding allotment of house sites and resolution of long-pending issues faced by the journalist community.

Journalists representing print, electronic and Urdu media participated in the protest and raised slogans urging the government to immediately provide house sites to eligible journalists.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers said journalists play a crucial role as a bridge between the government and the public while rendering services across various sectors. However, they alleged that despite spending several years in the profession, their genuine problems have been ignored by successive governments and leaders.

They expressed concern that journalists have been repeatedly approaching governments, political leaders and officials for the past several years seeking allotment of house sites, but their requests have not been addressed. Describing the situation as unfortunate, the protesters warned that they would not withdraw their indefinite strike until house sites are allotted to eligible journalists.
