Hyderabad –28 November (Patriotic Views) The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Standing Committee has officially greenlit the construction of a new Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Goshamahal, a major step in modernizing healthcare facilities in the city.

The approval includes a recommendation for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project, which will span 31.39 acres of land. This land currently houses various structures, including police quarters, the Goshamahal bunk, and sports facilities such as the Nampally Ward 45 stadium, along with basketball and badminton courts.

This redevelopment plan aims to build a new hospital structure on the site, while preserving the iconic heritage of the current Osmania General Hospital. The new facility is part of a broader effort to enhance the region’s healthcare infrastructure, as announced by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on August 3.

Along with the approval for the hospital, the GHMC Standing Committee also reviewed the corporation’s income and expenditure for September, approved medical reimbursements for corporators, and set up a three-member panel to examine medical bills.

On October 27, Revenue Minister P. Srinivas Reddy confirmed the state cabinet’s approval for transferring land from the Goshamahal police stadium to make way for the hospital’s construction. This transfer marks an important milestone in the project’s progress, which will address the growing healthcare demands of Hyderabad’s residents.

While the plans have received mixed reactions, particularly from former footballers who once played on the current grounds, the redevelopment is seen as an important move for the city’s healthcare modernization. The new Osmania General Hospital is expected to significantly enhance medical services in the region.
