District Collector Sikta Patnaik on Thursday inspected the Zilla Parishad High School in Nerva mandal headquarters.
During her visit, she interacted with Class 10 students, inquired about the midday meals, and immediately instructed officials to replace the rice after some students complained about its quality. She advised all students to wash their hands before meals and maintain personal hygiene to prevent seasonal diseases.
The Collector asked about the FA-1 exams and which subject they found difficult. As most students said Hindi was hard, she directed the in-charge headmaster to ensure improved teaching in the subject. Reviewing last year’s results, she urged students to work hard for the upcoming SSC exams and not take extended holidays during festivals.
She noted that 10 students had been absent on account of Vinayaka Chavithi and instructed teachers to counsel parents to ensure regular attendance. Special coaching classes for Class 10 students will begin next month, she said, adding that the school should once again achieve 100% results.
Later, the Collector inspected the midday meal kitchen, dining hall, and school premises. She ordered the agency operators to strictly follow the prescribed menu and questioned why firewood was being used instead of gas cylinders. She also visited the kitchen garden and medicinal plantation, instructing staff to maintain them properly, remove weeds, and display boards with scientific names and uses of medicinal plants.
Expressing satisfaction, she noted improvements in the RO plant’s maintenance since her last visit and appreciated the Saraswati idol installed in the school. The in-charge HM explained that alumni and donors had contributed the RO plant, CCTV cameras, and microphones, while other development works were taken up with school funds.
Finally, the Collector reviewed student strength, attendance, FA-1 results, and performance of LIP and C-grade students. She directed that Nerva ZP High School should secure top ranks in this year’s SSC results.
Nerva Tahsildar Malla Reddy, MPDO Srinivas, Panchayat Secretary, and other officials were present.
