BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has strongly condemned the Telangana Congress government’s decision to replace the historic Telangana Talli statue, calling it an affront to the emotions of the people and an attack on the legacy of the Telangana movement. In a symbolic protest, MLC Kavitha performed Palaabhishekam and Panchamrutam Abhishekam rituals at the original Telangana Talli statue at Telangana Bhavan, reaffirming its importance as the soul of Telangana’s identity.
Kavitha, a prominent leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), expressed her dismay over the Congress-led government’s unilateral decision to replace the iconic Telangana Talli statue. Speaking to the media, she stressed that the Telangana Talli statue has long represented the sacrifices, struggles, and identity of Telangana’s people.
“This statue has been the symbol of our fight for statehood and our collective sacrifices for decades. It cannot simply be replaced based on the whims of a government order. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who has no significant role in the Telangana movement and has historically supported a united Andhra Pradesh, cannot replace this revered icon with his own vision,” Kavitha asserted, adding, “This decision is an insult to the sentiments of the 4 crore people of Telangana.”
The BRS leader raised concerns about the secrecy surrounding the unveiling of the new statue, which was introduced without public consultation or discussion. “If the Congress government truly respected the sentiments of the people, why was this decision taken without consulting them? What was the fear in engaging with the people?” Kavitha questioned.
MLC Kavitha also criticized the timing of the statue’s unveiling, which coincided with Sonia Gandhi’s birthday. “If CM Revanth Reddy wanted to impress the Gandhis, there are countless ways to do so. Sacrificing Telangana’s identity is not one of them. History cannot be rewritten by replacing symbols; it is preserved by respecting the sentiments of the people,” she said.
Kavitha argued that the new statue fails to capture the rich culture and heritage of Telangana. “The original Telangana Talli stood as a beacon of hope during our fight for statehood. The Congress government has disrespected this emotional bond,” she stated.
She warned the Congress government that the people of Telangana would not accept this disrespect. “The Congress has played with the sacrifices of those who fought for Telangana. As BRS returns to power, we will restore the original Telangana Talli statue, which symbolizes our culture, heritage, and the spirit of Telangana. The new statue, which the Congress claims is a representation of a common woman, has no connection to our roots and emotions.”
Kavitha also highlighted the hypocrisy of the Congress, pointing out how the party treated protesting ASHA workers harshly while claiming to represent the common woman through the new statue. She reminded the public how KCR, as Chief Minister, had addressed the grievances of ASHA workers by inviting them to Pragathi Bhavan, contrasting this with Congress’s indifference to the workers’ concerns.
“The Congress government has failed to fulfill its promises and is now silencing voices instead of addressing genuine issues. Telangana will not tolerate this betrayal,” Kavitha added.
In conclusion, MLC Kavitha called on the people of Telangana to reject Congress’s attempts to rewrite history and pledged that BRS would remain committed to preserving the true identity of the state.
