Sangareddy Reviews Implementation of PC&PNDT Act
Sangareddy: The District Medical and Health Department conducted a district-level review meeting on the implementation of the PC&PNDT (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) Act. The meeting was chaired by District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Dr. K. Lalitha Devi and attended by doctors and officials from various departments.
The meeting reviewed the functioning of government and private scanning centres, implementation of the Act, maintenance of records, healthcare services provided to pregnant women, and compliance with the ban on determining whether an unborn baby is a boy or a girl.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Lalitha Devi said that determining or promoting the determination of whether an unborn baby is a boy or a girl is a punishable offence under the law. She directed all scanning centres to strictly follow the provisions of the PC&PNDT Act and warned that strict action would be taken against those violating the rules.
She also appealed to the public to report any suspected illegal pre-birth gender determination activities to the District Medical and Health Department immediately. She stressed that protecting the girl child and ensuring the health of mothers and children is a shared responsibility.
