BRS Demands Clarity Over Centre’s Denial of Political Clearance for Revanth Reddy’s US Visit
Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has demanded that the Central and Telangana governments disclose complete details regarding the Centre’s decision to deny Political Clearance for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States.
BRS MLC D. Sravan questioned the Union Government over the Ministry of External Affairs’ use of the term “Inappropriate” while denying clearance. He sought clarification on which programmes, meetings or engagements were considered inconsistent with the Chief Minister’s position or the stated purpose of his proposed visit.
Sravan also questioned the lack of clarity in the official schedule regarding the individuals and institutions Revanth Reddy was scheduled to meet during his proposed US visit from August 27 to 30. He demanded that the complete itinerary, details of meetings and the names of those who invited the Chief Minister be made public.
The BRS MLC said reports were circulating that the Political Clearance was denied because Revanth Reddy was scheduled to meet Zohran Mamdani, the Mayor of New York City. He questioned why Mamdani’s name was not included in the official itinerary if the meeting was the reason for the Centre’s decision.
“The governments should not use Mamdani’s name as a political cover and instead disclose the actual reasons for the cancellation,” Sravan said.
He further questioned why the Centre had granted Political Clearance for Revanth Reddy’s US visit in 2024 but denied it in 2026. He asked the Union and State governments to explain what had changed and what objections had emerged this time.
Sravan also sought clarification from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on the purpose of the proposed US visit, asking whether it was aimed at attracting investments to Telangana or involved any personal investment or business interests.
The BRS MLC demanded that the Union Government explain the reasons behind the denial of Political Clearance and that the Telangana government disclose the complete purpose, itinerary and details of the proposed visit to the people of the State.
