Union Minister Kishan Reddy Defends 130th Constitutional Amendment; Slams Congress, Highlights Fertilizer Supply Commitments
Hyderabad – Patriotic Views Union Minister Kishan Reddy addressed a press conference highlighting the Centre’s move to introduce the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. He explained that under the new provision, if the Prime Minister, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, or State Ministers face serious criminal charges and remain in jail for more than 30 days, they would automatically lose their positions.
The Minister said this reform is aimed at upholding ethical standards in public life, comparing it with rules applied to government employees who face suspension after 48 hours in jail. He criticized the Congress Party’s opposition to the Bill, stating that it applies to all parties equally and is not targeted at any one political group.
Kishan Reddy cited past precedents where leaders like L.K. Advani, Amit Shah, and others resigned from office until they were cleared of charges, terming it as a mark of moral politics. He attacked the Aam Aadmi Party and Tamil Nadu ministers for “clinging to power despite being jailed,” calling it a fall in democratic values.
On corruption, he reminded that during UPA rule scams worth over ₹12 lakh crore, including the 2G spectrum and Commonwealth Games scams, shook the nation. He alleged that Congress has a legacy of undermining constitutional morality, even amending the Constitution during Indira Gandhi’s tenure to protect her position.
On governance, he said BJP has taken historic reforms such as abolition of Triple Talaq, granting citizenship to persecuted minorities, and replacing outdated British-era penal codes with the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Speaking about fertilizer (urea) availability, the Minister assured farmers that despite international supply constraints, the Centre has ensured uninterrupted supply with subsidies. Nearly 50,000 metric tonnes of urea are already in transit to Telangana, he added. He accused the state government of mismanagement and spreading false panic among farmers, stressing that in the last 11 years there had been no shortage under the Centre’s commitment.
Kishan Reddy concluded by asserting that the amendment and other reforms were not politically motivated but were aimed at strengthening democracy and ensuring accountability in governance.
