Swift Action Ordered by Minority Welfare Minister Azharuddin After Baghlingampally Food Poisoning Incident

Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin took swift and decisive action following the food poisoning incident reported at the Baghlingampally Minorities Gurukul School, underlining the government’s commitment to student safety and accountability.
Taking serious note of the incident, Minister Azharuddin immediately ordered a detailed inquiry. Based on the findings, the Minority Welfare Department initiated strict disciplinary action against those responsible. The school Principal, Vanisri, and staff nurse Shanthi Kumari were placed under suspension, while the services of Deputy Warden Syeda Yashmin Nishad were terminated with immediate effect.
Confirming the action, Hyderabad Minority Welfare Officer Mohammed Ilyas Ahmed stated that the steps were taken after a thorough review conducted under the supervision of Minority Welfare Department Secretary B. Shaffiullah, following the Minister’s directions.
The incident occurred on Thursday night when 27 students fell ill after consuming dinner at the residential school. Out of the total 341 students enrolled, those affected complained of severe stomach pain, vomiting, and loose motions. Sixteen students were rushed to King Koti Hospital, while eleven were admitted to Niloufer Hospital for treatment.
Health officials reported that 14 students were discharged from King Koti Hospital on Saturday, while the remaining students are being kept under observation as a precautionary measure and are expected to be discharged within a day or two.
Senior officials of the department have been instructed to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and ensure strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards in all minority residential institutions. Minister Mohammed Azharuddin reiterated that student welfare is the top priority and warned that negligence at any level would not be tolerated.
