Nalla Cheruvu to Get Major Makeover, Revanth Reddy Likely to Inaugurate in November

Hyderabad: Restoration and development works at Nalla Cheruvu in Uppal are expected to be completed within the next two months, with the lake likely to be inaugurated by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in November, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath said.

According to HYDRAA officials, the lake had suffered severe encroachments and had been reduced to less than 50 acres of water spread. After reclaiming the encroached land, the lake has now been expanded to 67.31 acres.

Ranganath said Nalla Cheruvu, located along the Warangal Highway, was previously used as a dumping ground for garbage and industrial effluents. The area is now being transformed into a freshwater lake and is planned to become a major tourist destination, potentially generating significant employment opportunities.

Officials said the lake is being equipped with inlet channels to allow stormwater to enter and fill the lake, along with outlet gates to regulate excess water and prevent flooding in surrounding areas.

A 2.4-kilometre bund and walking track is also being constructed around the lake, along with gazebos and recreational and playing areas.

On Saturday, Ranganath also inspected Thammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur. He directed officials to enhance greenery around the lakes and create a cleaner, greener and more peaceful environment for visitors.
