Suryapet, August 26, 2026: Six people, including five women, were killed and at least 20 others injured after a private electric bus rammed into a truck on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway in Telangana’s Suryapet district on Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred around 5:15 a.m. in Kodad mandal. The bus, carrying 42 passengers, was travelling from Hyderabad to Eluru in Andhra Pradesh when it crashed into the truck from behind, according to preliminary investigations.

The impact severely damaged the front portion of the bus. Six passengers died at the spot, while several others sustained serious injuries. Police and rescue teams rushed to the scene after receiving information and shifted the injured to Kodad Area Hospital.

Suryapet District Superintendent of Police K. Narasimha said the truck was carrying heavy industrial pillars. When the bus collided with the truck, the chain securing the pillars reportedly snapped, causing the pillars to strike the right side of the bus. Passengers seated towards the front suffered the most severe impact.

At least 12 injured passengers were shifted to different hospitals for treatment. Two critically injured persons were later moved to a hospital in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, for advanced medical care.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding may have contributed to the crash. Police are also examining whether the truck had struck a road divider shortly before the bus collided with it.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and directed the Chief Secretary to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured.

Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
