Hyderabad, August 24, 2026: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Centre’s decision to deny permission for his proposed official visit to the United States, demanding that the Prime Minister disclose the “political reasons” behind the decision.

Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat on Monday, the Chief Minister questioned the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) over the decision to permit his proposed visit to the United Kingdom while denying permission for the US tour. He said the Telangana government had submitted comprehensive details of the proposed foreign visit to the MEA.

According to Revanth Reddy, the Ministry indicated that the US visit was being rejected due to “political considerations”. He demanded that the Prime Minister explain what political reasons were behind the cancellation of the tour.

The Chief Minister alleged that the Centre was adopting a biased attitude towards Telangana and attempting to obstruct the state’s development. He pointed out that the Union government had permitted the Gujarat Chief Minister to visit the US and Canada from August 17 to 28 for investment-related Vibrant Gujarat programmes.

Questioning why Telangana was denied a similar opportunity under the Telangana Rising 2047 initiative, Revanth Reddy said the decision amounted to an injustice to the four crore people of Telangana.

The Chief Minister alleged that the Centre blocked his US visit out of concern that Telangana could surpass Gujarat in attracting investments. He termed the decision an attempt to discriminate against Telangana and stall its development.

“Our MPs will raise this issue in Parliament. This is political discrimination and an attempt to stall Telangana’s progress,” Revanth Reddy said.

He, however, made it clear that the denial of permission would not stop Telangana from pursuing its investment and development goals. He said the state government would organise the Telangana Global Summit 2026 under the aegis of Invest Telangana on December 8 and 9, with a focus on attracting investments, including in the education and sports sectors.

The Chief Minister stressed that while political parties may have ideological differences, cordial relations between the Centre and state governments are essential in the federal structure. He said the Centre’s approach appeared to be undermining these relations.

Revanth Reddy noted that India is a union of states and said this principle reflects the democratic and federal spirit of the country. He explained that the proposed foreign tour had been planned with a focus on education, sports and investments, and expressed concern that Telangana could miss potential investment opportunities due to the Centre’s decision.

The Chief Minister also criticised BJP leaders for their comments on his proposed US visit. He accused them of making personal political allegations and false statements against him. Revanth Reddy said the matter concerned relations between the Union and state governments and should not have been turned into a political controversy.

He reiterated that the Telangana government would continue its efforts to attract investments and advance the state’s development agenda despite the Centre’s decision.
