Date: 31-03-2026
State Minister for Sports, Dairy Development, and Animal Husbandry Vakiti Srihari stated that the Congress government is giving top priority to women’s welfare.
The Minister participated in a program organized by RTC at Makthal Bus Stand, marking the milestone of women saving nearly ₹10,000 crore through free bus travel under the Mahalakshmi Scheme, with around 290 crore women passengers benefiting across Telangana.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said that the government has ensured free bus travel for women across the state, enabling them to travel anywhere without financial burden. He highlighted that RTC played a key role during the Telangana movement and added that the government has revived RTC by reimbursing the cost of free travel.
He revealed that in Narayanpet district alone, the government has paid ₹123 crore to RTC so far, helping women in the district save nearly ₹12 lakh daily. He criticized opposition parties for making negative remarks about the free bus scheme, stating that such criticism is unjustified as the scheme has significantly benefited women.
The Minister expressed confidence that women, who manage households efficiently, can achieve anything. He stated that the government aims to create one crore women millionaires by supporting women’s groups through RTC rental buses, petrol bunk management, and interest-free loans.
He further said that respecting women is key to building a prosperous state.
Referring to agriculture, the Minister said that while the previous government discouraged paddy cultivation, the present government has made it profitable. He stated that farmers cultivating fine rice are being given Minimum Support Price along with bonuses, and the government is procuring the produce. The rice is then distributed through ration shops, providing 6 kg of fine rice to every गरीब household.
The program was attended by Makthal Municipal Chairperson Manasa Hanmanthu, Narayanpet District Collector Prateek Jain, Revenue Collector Srinu, Local Bodies Collector Phanindra, Narayanpet Depot Manager Lavanya, Market Committee Chairman Radha Lakshma Reddy, and others.
