Crime Rate Down, Road Deaths Reduced as Police Step Up Enforcement in 2025
Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya unveils Annual Crime Report, declares intensified war on drugs and drunk driving
Nizamabad, December 30 (MD Akber-Patriotic): Nizamabad Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya, IPS, on Tuesday released the 2025 Annual Crime Report at the Command Control Centre in the Police Commissionerate, stating that sustained police commitment, inter-departmental coordination, and public cooperation had led to an overall reduction in crime and a significant drop in road fatalities during the year. Addressing a press conference, the Commissioner said total registered crimes declined from 8,983 cases last year to 8,624 in 2025, though crimes against children rose from 120 to 168, calling for focused social and policing interventions. He highlighted notable success in road safety measures, explaining that identification of black spots and corrective action reduced road accidents from 857 last year to 780 this year, while deaths dropped sharply from 353 to 276, alongside a fall in injuries. Commissioner Sai Chaitanya attributed this improvement partly to strict and continuous drunk driving checks, with cases increasing from 8,410 last year to 17,627 in 2025 due to expanded enforcement, warning that drunken driving would not be tolerated under any circumstances as it endangers both drivers and the public. Declaring a full-scale war on drugs in the coming year, he said awareness programmes conducted in colleges and villages would be intensified further. He also announced dynamic patrolling to curb interstate crimes along national highways, a plan to install CCTV cameras in every village, formation of a police-based DDRF unit for swift flood response, and expanded cybercrime awareness. On New Year celebrations, he clarified that police were not against festivities but cautioned against crossing limits, warning that drunk driving during celebrations would attract fines exceeding 10,000 and possible imprisonment. Additional DCP (Admin) G. Baswa Reddy, Nizamabad ACP Raja Venkat Reddy, Bodhan ACP Srinivas, Armoor ACP Venkateshwar Reddy, Traffic ACP Mastan Ali, Cyber Crime ACP Y. Venkateshwar Rao, Special Branch CI Srishailam, CCRB CI Veerayya, IT Cores staff, and other CIs and SIs were present.
